REORGANISATION
Reconstructing two or more pieces of information in the text
Although it is quite literal its scattered nature can make it very difficult - even for students regarded as good readers.
♦ Information can be either joined or grouped
♦ Often involves a referent
♦ Knowledge of referents is necessary (she, they, it)
INFERENCE
Information implied, but not given directly in the text
Can be descibed as simple inference, in that it doesn't usually require a great deal of reorganisation and it doesn't require any significant extrapolation.
♦ Answers to these questions are not always absolute
♦ Writer’s intent must be considered
EVALUATION
Extrapolating additional information not given in the text
Can be descibed as complex inference, in that it requires reorganisation and inference and often extrapolation.
♦ Can involve reorganisation, inference & vocabulary
♦ Writer’s intent is also important
REACTION
Expressing an opinion based on information given in the text
The highest form of questioning in that the reader must evaluate the text and give an opinion based on the given
information.
♦ Involves reorganisation, inference, vocabulary
