There are many students, young and old, who are regarded as functional readers, yet spend little time engaging with text.
While this is a concern, there is also a large number of students who read regularly, but far too narrowly. As a direct consequence, they struggle with broader comprehension both at school and throughout their daily lives.
EXTEND Reading Tracker is more than the common type of reading diary which can be found in schools around the world. It is a proven resource that encourages both a greater engagement with reading and a range of text types.

By its design the EXTEND Reading Tracker positively encourages students to increase their reading time by degrees and - of equal importance - broaden the range of material they read.
DESIGN
♦ A5 'write in' booklet.
♦ Formal look encourages students to value the book & purpose
STRUCTURE
♦ Clear instructions at the front of the book.
♦ Lists of fiction and non-fiction genre with definitions
♦ Twelve weekly data entry boxes designed for students to:
◊ set an achievable goal each week.
◊ record titles of text or books -
the time spent reading and the type of text read.
◊ graph for recording time spent reading in a week.
◊ graph for recording types read.
UNIQUE FEATURE
The simple bar graphs instantly show whether the reader is on track or needs to extend the time spent reading and/or the range of reading material.
USE
Use where it will achieve best results - whole classes, groups, individuals - at school and /or home.
No special training or knowledge is needed for its success.
Teacher and/or parent guidance and encouragement is required.
